Was born in Zurich. After his postgraduate studies he was educated at the Music academy and University of Zurich and finally at the Detmold School of Music. From 1961 until 1965 he continued his education and graduated in violin, audio control engineering and conducting. His education was further supplemented by attending courses and training in Darmstadt, Paris, Hilversum and New York. - As a conductor and composer he has won prizes from various institutions and competitions. His catalogue of works encompasses a rich selection of pieces for solo, chamber music, vocals and orchestra. His work for cultural committees in the fields of contemporary music led to remarkable success in the Swiss music scene. - Peter Wettsteins professional career is almost exclusively concentrated in Zurich. In 1965 he was engaged as a teacher for conducting and in the theoretical disciplines at the music academy. In 1976 he took over as director of the vocation departments at the conservatory and music school, in addition to this he taught at the University from 1978 until 2001. From 1999 until summer 2003 he was director of the Zurich School of Music.
